There are dozens of museums in Manila to explore, but there are a few standouts that should be part of the tour itinerary of every traveler. The National Museum of the Philippines is well-known, and its series of museums is definitely on most travel websites, but there are three museums you may not have heard of that offer something unique and are a must-see.

The Mind Museum

This 53,000 square foot science museum is barely five years old but has won over the hearts of its visitors. With more than 250 exhibits, this museum takes you on a journey of fun and exploration. It’s composed of five main galleries: atom, life, earth, universe, and technology. Also, there are several traveling and special exhibits such as “Dinosaurs around the World” and “Planet Story.” This museum won the prestigious THEA Award for Outstanding Achievement for the Science Museum in 2014. Its displays are colorful and awe-inspiring for the science lover in all of us.

Ayala Museum

At the heart of the Makati Central Business District lies the Ayala Museum, offering a welcome distraction in the midst of busy urban sprawl. This beautiful architectural building is the home of contemporary art, as well as significant historical Filipino artifacts and history. One of the more famous exhibits is the “Gold of Ancestors: Pre-Colonial Treasures in the Philippines” displaying the incredible craftsmanship of the Filipino people. It also houses rare books, photographs, and recordings in the Filipinas Heritage Library. The “Pioneers of Philippine Art” exhibit displays masterpieces from the 19th and 20th centuries from artists like Juan Luna, Fernando Amorsolo, and Fernando Zobel. Stroll the galleries and take in the beauty of some of the finest art in the world. In fact, this museum may take more than a day to explore fully.

The San Agustin Church is already a must-see in Manila, but many people don’t explore beyond the church building’s architecture and jaw-dropping ceiling. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is also a museum with displays of statues, paintings, and church artifacts. There is a mausoleum and a library with a variety of rare books, and a room showing various vestments that the priests would wear for services and holidays. One of the best parts is the garden of Father Blanco, who was a botanist. This garden is an oasis in the middle of busy Intramuros.

These are just three of the many, many fascinating museums that Manila has to offer, and you can experience these and more while staying in Manila for an Uncharted Philippines adventure. Your experienced guide can provide suggestions for additional destinations and day tours near Manila during your stay. Discover the magic of the Philippines for yourself.
