How to Travel in Colombia with Multiple Generations and Have The Most Fun

por : Nicole Brown publicado :

When it comes to planning a family trip to Colombia, one when you invite grandma, mom and the whole kit and kaboodle, there are sure to be some great times ahead if you customize your adventure tour. Just because you’re traveling with multi-generations, it doesn’t mean that your adventures should be contained to the hop on, hop off sightseeing tour. There are so many more possibilities in store that will have something that everyone will love. The key is to plan your custom Colombian adventure and below are some tips on how to do just that.

Tip 1: Manage Mobility

The first challenge when traveling with multiple generations is of course mobility. The youngsters will want to do more traditional adventurous activities like hiking, mountain climbing and overall exploring but when it comes to the older generations, they want to be able to get to one place and enjoy. This is not a problem when you decide to customize a trip. The key is to choosing the right in-the-know guide who can create an itinerary that will make everyone’s heart sing.

For instance, a couple of the best customizable trips for multi-generational parties are the Coffee and Mountains tour and the La Guajira beach tour. The Coffee and Mountains tour is easily customizable as your party will be based in a central location so that individual party members can choose whether to do hiking day trips or stay behind and explore the town and country. And if grandma wants to come along on a hike but doesn’t want to put in the strenuous work, chat with your in-the-know guide and they may be able to secure a horse so that grandma can see the stunning nature without having to load up on gear and trek.

The La Guajira Beach tour is also a great option for multi-generational parties as this itinerary can be slowed down and more time can be spent at each beach location. And with stunning flamingos, pelicans, sand and sea nearby, no one will be short of adventure. Bonus tip: make sure to grab a one-of-a-kind Wayuu Mochila while in the region.

Tip 2: Split the Party

In the case of travelling with a large multi-generational group, another option to maximise travel time is to split the party in two groups. One group can gear up for a full-on adventure or mountain climbing excursion while the other can enjoy a day of shopping and culture in Bogotá. (Tip: make sure to ask your Colombian adventure tour guide for the best dinner reservations in town! )Then, at the end of the day, your two parties can merge and the family will be reunited again. This way, everyone gets to see something as well as spend time together and no one will feel pushed or left behind.

Don’t be afraid to do a bespoke tour of Colombia, doing so will make sure you fly home with some of the most unforgettable travel memories. And of course, grandma will thank you for indulging her in the adventure.
